Each third party payer has its own qualifying criteria for respiratory equipment reimbursement. You may reach out directly with your payer for its specific criteria or contact Medigas at 1-866-446-6302 for assistance.
In Ontario, home medical equipment, such as a walker, bath bench or hospital bed, may be covered by your Home and Ontario Health atHome (OHaH). Anyone with a valid Ontario Health Card may contact an OHaH to make a referral.
Equipment Rental Questions
Is a referral or prescription needed to rent medical equipment?
Does Home Medical Equipment need to be purchased outright or can it be rented first?
If you have made a referral to your local Ontario Health atHome (Ontario) organization, you may be assessed to determine eligibility for the medical equipment loan program. Through this program, you would have access to a short-term (up to 30 days) equipment loan at no charge to you. If your need for this equipment exceeds beyond 30 days, you would be responsible to arrange and pay for the equipment.
What services are included in a hospital bed rental?
The hospital bed frame, mattress and side rails will be delivered directly to your home address. Upon delivery, the Medigas representative will assemble the bed and ensure it is functional. Basic instructional use and care instructions will be provided. Upon completion of the rental period, a Medigas representative will return to dismantle and collect the bed in its entirety.
To prepare for the bed delivery, you are requested to clear the room of furniture in order to accommodate the bed. If you have requested an electric bed, please ensure that an electrical outlet is near to the area chosen for the bed. The Medigas representative will not move your furniture to ready the room for the bed.
Is there an installation fee?
Setup and delivery fees may apply for privately rented hospital beds.
There is no installation fee for items that are provided through an Ontario Health atHome (OHaH) organization.
Please note that certain items, such as grab bars, Superpoles and toilet safety frames will require being attached to the wall, ceiling & floor, or toilet fixture. Medigas will take caution not to damage any structure during instillation and removal. A signed waiver is required prior to the installation of a Superpole. A delivery charge for small items may be applied.
How do I request an equipment pick-up?
When your Ontario Health atHome (OHaH) equipment loan has ended, a Medigas representative will call you to arrange a date to collect the equipment from your home. You must call OHaH if you wish to have the equipment picked up prior to the end of the loan period.
If you have privately rented home medical equipment from Medigas, please call the number located on the equipment to arrange a pick up time.
