It is important to remember that CPAP is not a cure for sleep apnea. Most people will use CPAP for the rest of their lives while others may require it for a shorter period of time. Only a physician trained in sleep medicine can predict how long CPAP is needed.
CPAP Therapy Questions
How long do I need to use
CPAP?
My bed partner says that I snore even though I’m using my CPAP. What does this mean?
There are many possible reasons that you may be snoring in spite of you using your CPAP such as significant weight changes, improper mask fitting, mouth breathing, or inadequate CPAP pressure setting(s). It is recommended that you contact your prescribing physician or Medigas so that your snoring may be properly addressed.
Why do I wake up with a dry mouth and throat?
There may be a few reasons for this to happen. Take your humidifier setting off the “Auto” position and adjust the setting until you get the desired moisture level. If your nose is blocked, try using a saline solution to relieve the blockage. If you are breathing through your mouth, you may benefit from using a chin strap or full face mask. Please call Medigas at 1-866-446-6302 for assistance.
How long after starting CPAP will I feel the effects?
Every person responds a little differently. For some, they will feel the difference within a few days of starting therapy while for others, it may take a few weeks or a couple of months.
Can I miss a night or two of using my CPAP?
No. CPAP only works if it is used each time you to go to sleep, including napping. Don’t be tempted to stop CPAP therapy because you start to feel better or don’t feel the positive effects of CPAP.
