Home Sleep Apnea Testing

Sleep apnea may be diagnosed after a sleep study has been completed. A sleep study is a test that is conducted in a sleep laboratory or a patient’s home.
Polysomnography, considered the gold standard test for determining a sleep disorder, is used in the sleep laboratory to perform a Level I sleep study. Measurements of brain activity, airway muscle tone, heart rhythm, airflow through the nose and mouth, chest and abdominal breathing effort, eye movements, body movements, oxygen saturation and snoring sounds are recorded.
A home sleep apnea test, also known as an HSAT or Level III, is self-administered by the patient. This test allows for airflow, snoring, breathing effort, body movement, oxygen saturation and sleep position to be monitored.
For both the Level I and HSAT, the results are scored and finally interpreted by a physician who specializes in sleep medicine.
In the provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Quebec, Saskatchewan and Alberta, Medigas offers a standardized and simplified process for an HSAT and a seamless solution with CPAP therapy. Make a referral today!
