OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea)

Surgery

Surgery is an invasive treatment intervention that may be helpful for snoring but less so for Obstructive Sleep Apnea. UPPP (uvulopalatopharyngoplasty) is a procedure performed by a surgeon that involves removing the uvula and soft tissue from the back of the throat. LAUP (laser-assisted uvulo-palatoplasty) is a procedure whereby the physician removes tissue from the uvula and soft palate with laser. LAUP can be done in a doctor's office over several visits. After surgery, a sleep study may be performed to detect sleep apnea in the absence or reduction of snoring.

A physician will advise a patient when surgery is an appropriate treatment option.
